N82’s construction will be disrupting campus life until its 2026 completion, but will it be worth it? I sat down with project managers Liz and Kiera to tell me more about N82.

Johnson Path set to be reopened by 2025.
Currently, the demolition of N13 to make room for N82 is behind schedule. Kiera and Liz explained that this delay was because Lendlease, the construction company employed to build N82, wanted to redesign the project to make it more affordable and easier to build.
“When Lendlease joined the project, they requested to redesign the building, so it was cheaper and easier to build. This put the project timeline behind by 6-9 months” – Kiera Leggereit
The demolition team has discovered additional mould and asbestos in N13 further delaying the project.
“We have to remove the mould and asbestos before demolition to make it safer for the workers and to reduce the environmental impact” – Kiera Leggereit
N82, the most accessible and inclusive building at Nathan?
Accessibility and inclusivity were key priorities in the planning stages of N82 and it really shows.
There will be accessible bathrooms on every level and the ground floor bathroom will be equipped with a shower and an adult changing table – Changing Places Facilities.
Gender Neutral bathrooms will be located on every level except -2. Also, a parent room will be on the ground floor.
As per the building standards all hallways and doors will be wide enough for wheelchair access.
Liz explained that she collaborated with a consultant specialising in the Disability Discrimination Act and infrastructure planning.
“Even the stairs and elevators will have the same arrival points to make sure everyone has the same experience moving through the building” – Liz Stuart
N82 costs how much?!
The construction of the new Arrivals Plaza will cost the university around $200 million. N82 will have 29 new teaching spaces which will include seminar rooms, tech enabled learning spaces, computer labs, and specialist education spaces. These new teaching spaces will increase Nathan’s student capacity in preparation for moving out of the Mount Gravatt campus.
The New Cafe
On the ground floor there will be space for a new cafe. The university will be leasing it out to a business and will be advertising the space closer to the opening of the building.
Liz and Kiera were curious to know what kind of food students would like to see on the menu. Please share your favourite menu items you would like to see on campus in the comment section below.
Do you have other Questions about N82?
Major Projects is always looking for feedback from students and would love to have more students involved in their stakeholder groups. If you have any questions, you can email them at: majorprojects@griffith.edu.au.
