The Griffith Dragons will resume their URLQ 2026 campaign next week following the trimester break, with the competition leaders determined to continue their dominant start to the season.
Head coach, Rob Lewis, declared his team’s desire to continue their domination of URLQ 2026, with the team looking to maintain is unbeaten streak and complete the clean sweep as the undisputed team this season.
The team headed into the break as the only undefeated side in the league, with four wins and a draw.
The squad undertook thirteen weeks of preseason to prepare, and its effectiveness has been displayed across the opening stanzas of the season.
Griffith were tested early in the season with a hard-fought draw against UQ, but bounced back by building a four-game win streak.
They now sit at the head of the table, having notched wins over the entire league, beating UQ, QUT and UniSC.
Griffith University’s Rugby League Nines, which featured a large amount of Dragons players, were also successful at the Intervarsity Sport Bowl.
They claimed that competition, which has seemingly boosted the Dragons’ desires to continue to dominate URLQ 2026.
Following the Dragons 54-12 win over UniSC on June 3, head coach Rob Lewis declared the team’s desire to continue their domination of URLQ 2026.
Mr Lewis stated the team will continue to focus on their teamwork to help the team improve on their current premiership calibre form.
“It’s gonna’ be teamwork, we’re a club,” he said.
“We discussed that we want to win everything this year.
“We want a clean sweep of everything.
“We want the league, we want the title, and we’ve already done the Intervarsity.
“We all know that each game, we’ve got to get better by so much percentage.
“So, it’s working on those percentages that gives us results like we got today.”
The Dragons’ season resumes next week on Wednesday, July 22, against the QUT Trouts.
The away fixture will be held at Bulimba Valleys Bulldogs Rugby League Football Club, Bulimba, with kick-off at 7:30 pm.
This marks the beginning of the team’s final push to secure the minor premiership and the all-important home field advantage for the finals series.
Members of the Griffith community are encouraged to come support their team with the Dragons’ last home games taking place on August 5 and 19 at Griffith Nathan Fields.
