Emma Standen
Hello neighbours! In celebration of me living on campus for 1 year now I thought I would share some things I have learnt along the way.
- I’ve always worn my thongs (also known as flip flops) in the shower to protect myself from contracting any fungal or bacterial infections. You are sharing that tiny shower space with a lot of people. Podiatrists and dermatologists alike recommend wearing shower shoes to avoid infections such as, athletes’ foot, warts and staph infections just to name a few.
- Mould can be a problem in Nathan accommodation. Not just in the bathroom but everywhere. Be aware of it, Accommodation recommends opening your curtains and windows from time to time to allow for airflow through the flat. Vinegar is an excellent cleaner for mould, so I recommend buying some to keep on hand. If you find that the mould has gotten out of hand, contact the accommodation office to get a deep clean done.
- I recommend getting your flu jabs up-to-date, last year I was sick about half a dozen times which resulted in me missing out on a lot of things. Once again you are living with a lot of people in a very small space and the flu likes to get around.
- Meal prepping for the week is really good when you are juggling work, study and a social life. Find a few favourite easy to make in bulk meals to help make sure you are eating enough every day. A personal favourite of mine is pumpkin soup.
- The worst time to do your laundry is on the weekend during the day. Some seasoned players of the washing machine hunger games may recommend doing your laundry at midnight while everyone is asleep, but I say don’t wreck your sleep schedule, do it during a weekday while everyone is in class.
That’s all from me folks, below is some contact information for Griffith Accommodation.
